Arctic Heat Cooling Vest Instructions - How To Use
General use and care instructions - Cooling Vest
Initial Soak - Activation
The Arctic Heat cool vest requires activation in water before the initial use. Once activated the cool vest can be used chilled, frozen or heated.
Initially soak in fresh water for 10 minutes until crystal in pockets swells into gel form (pockets should be firm but not bursting). Do not use salt water.
When removing from water, grab top and bottom of products and gently twist in opposite directions to remove excess water. The cooling vest can also be rolled in a dry towel to help remove additional moisture.

The cooling vest should now hang to dry.
Removing the excess water will ensure the lightest possible vest weight and ensure that when worn that the cooling vest is dry . The ice vest should now be correctly activated. The cooling vest should weigh around 2.2 pounds when correctly activated.

Chilled/Frozen - Refrigerator
Once activated and completely dried, the cool vest can be placed in the refrigerator or freezer. We recommend storing without any packaging. An open shopping bag which allows airflow is ok. The Arctic Heat resealable plastic bag is not recommend for freezer usage, as it is specially designed for the ice slurry application.
When freezing the cooling vest, a useful trick is to place a sheet of wax paper
or freezer paper between the cooling vest to stop it sticking together.
If the cool vest is stiff (frozen) when taken out of freezer; apply a light mist of water
from water spray.
If the product is frozen solid when taken out of freezer, it is okay to snap the frozen gel pockets with your fingers to make them more flexible.

Chilled – Ice Slurry. To chill the vest in an ice slurry, or on ice, spread out the activated vest) inside the resealable Arctic Heat bag (if purchased) or a thin waterproof plastic bag. Then seal the bag and squeeze out the air from inside the bag. Place the sealed bag into the ice slurry or ice
until sufficiently chilled. In some circumstances the cooling vest can be dipped directly into the ice slurry for a couple of minutes.

Heated. The vest can be used warm / hot. The vest must be in the activated state and then heated in a Microwave Oven. Check the vest’s temperature every 30 seconds until the desired temperature is reached. Heating times may vary according to wattage and settings of the microwave. It is IMPORTANT to check that the vest is not too hot before wearing to avoid burns.
Maintenance and Care
If the crystal / gel pockets start to dehydrate and become flat, soak for 5-10 minutes so that the gel pockets properly swell again. If pockets return to the original crystal state, simply repeat the initial soak.

Storing
Once activated the product can be stored either in the freezer or can be hung in a ventilated area. If wishing to store the product for long periods, hang the product in a ventilated area and allow it to completely dehydrate (returning it to crystal).
Washing
To wash, simply hand wash in warm water with synthetic laundry detergent for 2 minutes and hang to dry. If the cooling vest also requires activation/reactivation you may also use a short delicate wash cycle on your front loading washing machine. Any washing machine usage should be restricted to front loading machines and keep cycle as short as possible so that the vest doesn't sit in water for too long and over-activate. Do not use bleach. Do not Iron. Do not dry clean. Do not use fabric softeners.
Please note: Gel crystals are non-sensitive to skin and mucous membranes. The gel crystals are not absorbed by the skin and are non-toxic. The back of vest only has 3 panels filled with gel.
Warning: Some medical conditions may require advice from a health professional before application. Take extra care when using with children, the elderly, disabled, ill and sleeping recipients. If gel is ingested seek medical advice.
